Ocean Beach Arts and Craft Show

I will be out at Ocean Beach on Fire Island this weekend for the Annual Arts and Craft Show. Looking forward to meeting some people out there and showcasing/selling my work. I have recently designed and printed up the second series of the Long Island Town Type Map and also a Manhattan map. I’m actually picking them both up from the printer in a few hours. Im psyched to head over to The Printhouse and see how the final prints came out. But first I am at the office finishing up a 44 page catalog for the new Zoo York 2012 sunglass line that needs to be printed, perfect bound and in Vegas for Majic by next weekend. Needless to say it has been a hectic week.

I will have three new designs in total: Long Island and Manhattan which will both be signed and numbered and limited to 500 pieces, as well as a Fire Island Map.You can see all the new designs in the store and ready for immediate shipment.

Hope to see you out at in Ocean Beach.

LB Art and Craft Fair Roundup

Was great to meet all of you at the fair last weekend. I'm all caught up with emailing my new friends and shipping out all of the orders of goods that sold out. I also made a trek back to LB on Friday and personally dropped off all of the orders from the area.

While the show went great, i am already in the studio making some more things for the next fair on August 20-21.

Any questions or comments can be sent to me directly at james@ilostmydog.com

This is Hard Time on Planet Earth

Had to take an emergency trip to Home Depot yesterday at noon for work. And those of you that are hip hop fans know what thant means in NY, time for old school/throwback at noon time. Mr. C treated us to some classic Redman songs and then some classic West Coast raps. The above graphic is taken from a line on Xzibit's "what you see is what you get". One of, if not his best song. When I got back to the office I sketched this up for a little digital relaxation.

Here's the video of it as well, one of my favorite videos of all time.

TYPO London: Oct 20-22 2011

I was first put on to the TYPO Berlin conferences by an old professor, Brooklynite, living type legend and a 100% original Mr. Ed Benguiat. If memory serves me correct he was a guest speaker their a few years back as well. This years event, under the title SHIFT, just wrapped up and I was reading a recap from the team over at i love typography. The whole idea of pushing the envelope and changing your perspective is an important thing for a designer to remember. It's easy to stand still and keep doing what works, the glory however usually always comes in taking the risks and thinking different.

The next go around of the TYPO conferences will be out in London for a few days in October. They describe it best:

Places will bring a vibrant global conversation about our surroundings, how we interact with people and environments and the stuff that defines our understanding of the world.
Design and the creative process is often the unifying factor linking people, places and things together. TYPOLondon 2011 Places (#typoconf) hosts an exciting panel of speakers discussing our sense of place, the way we live, behave, move around, communicate and interact with each other. From information and urban planning to social networks, online communities and animated worlds, places shape our social behavior and the stuff we choose to surround us.
This would be a great time to have that long talked about metalbox design group team meeting in a foreign country other than Mexico. Gang or not, i'm gonna try to make a weekend trip out there and take part in this. Would be a great inspiration and a way to meet some new people.

Ireland Map Jigsaw Puzzle

I started prototyping some push-fit style jigsaw puzzles with a few rejects of the Ireland county map recently and am getting close to making something at a high enough quality to sell. Just need to work out a few last minute details to make it special.

Once i get the process down and kinks worked out, it’s onto the Long Island type map and then the Italy, Staten Island and Japan maps that are set to arrive at the end of the month. I am really looking forward to getting this together and seeing people’s reaction.

A quick video of me in the lab cutting up some pieces with my scroll saw.
